The taxi driver permit (taksinkuljettajan ajolupa) is valid for five years (two years for drivers over 68). If you renew between 1 November 2026 and 31 August 2034, the renewal requires a 7-hour refresher training, completed before you submit the application. Fill in and pay for the application at a service point of Traficom's service provider (Ajovarma). Traficom processes the application, and the new permit card arrives by post in about two weeks.

The requirement applies only to renewals between 1 Nov 2026 and 31 Aug 2034. At your next renewal the training is required if it falls within the transition period.
Drivers who have completed the statutory 21-hour taxi driver training are not required to take the refresher training at renewal.

Yes. The training can be completed before the renewal — the completion is entered in the register. Tell us your permit's expiry month on the waiting list and we will remind you when the renewal approaches.

A+ reports the approved completion to the transport register. You can get a certificate free of charge on request if you want one for yourself.
